BLACK HISTORY MONTH:
John W. Smith’s legacy in Tift County is one of dedication, leadership, and service. Mr. Smith began his career in Tift County in 1964 as a teacher at Wilson Elementary and High School. In 1970 he became a teacher at Tift County High School then became an assistant principal there in 1973. In 1979 he moved to J.T. Reddick Middle School as the principal where he served the next 16 years, until his retirement in 1995.
Following his retirement, Mr. Smith continued to be involved in the school system. In 2003 he was elected as the District 2 representative on the Tift County Board of Education. Mr. Smith served four full four year terms and was re-elected for a fifth term in 2018. Mr. Smith passed away in 2019.
John Smith’s impact on students, educators, and our community is immeasurable. His life’s work reflected a deep passion for education. We honor and remember him for his lasting contributions to Tift County.

On Monday, the Superintendent Student Advisory Council met with Mrs. Gore and members of the Finance Department to gain insight into the school system’s budget and the process of developing it.
Students shared their thoughts on the district’s current needs as well as priorities for the 2025-26 school year. Hearing from our students is an important part of making decisions for the future of our system, ensuring their voices help shape what’s next for Tift County Schools! #4theT
