Pre-Kindergarten Registration Guidelines
2024-2025
Pre-K classes will be in each of our eight elementary schools. Registration will begin February 1st for in-county residents and employees of the Tift County School System. The online application will open on January 29th. Parents will need to make an appointment to come to Central Registration to complete the registration.
Students MUST turn 4 years old ON or BEFORE September 1, 2024 to be eligible to attend our Pre-Kindergarten program.
Pre-K slots at each elementary school will be filled in this order:
In and out of county Pre-K students with parents working at the zoned elementary school.
In-county Pre-K students with siblings already attending the zoned elementary school.
In-county Pre-K students zoned for the elementary school. At the end of the three week period (February 1 - 28), if there are too many Pre-K students registered for a school zone, a public lottery will be held to fill the remaining (after 1 & 2) slots at a zoned Pre-K location. Registration at another zone will be an option but transportation is required.
Beginning March 1st, registration will be open to all out of county residents. Parents should complete the online portion of registration and fill out an out of county application. After out of county approval, parents will visit Central Registration to provide all necessary documents. The Out of County Application will be available in late February.
The goal is to keep all Pre-K students in their assigned school zones. Once classes are filled at an elementary site, a waiting list will be started. If there are not enough Pre-K students to fill a class at an elementary school, we reserve the right to offer Pre-K enrollment in another school. Transportation will not be provided for out of zone students attending another location.
Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, students that attend an out of zone school for Pre-K, will attend their zoned school for Kindergarten.
If a Pre-K student moves after assignments have been mailed, he/she may or may not be granted the new Pre-K zone. At this time, the student will need to be transported by parents/guardians to the originally assigned location or be placed on the waiting list for the new school zone.
