Spotlight on Randy Sellars: Principal of Charles Spencer Elementary Randy Sellars, principal of Charles Spencer Elementary, is a 1998 graduate of Tift County High School and brings 17 years of experience in education to his leadership role. Now in his second year as principal, Mr. Sellars is known for his dedication to creating a positive environment for his students. He and his wife, Beth, have been married for over 21 years and are proud parents to three children: Brady (13), and twins Gavin and Gracie (10). For Mr. Sellars, the most rewarding part of his job is being a positive influence in the lives of his students. However, the most challenging aspect is the difficulty of not being able to instantly solve all the educational and non-educational struggles his students face. Despite these challenges, his commitment to helping students thrive remains strong. Thank you, Mr. Sellars, for your service to the students of Tift County! #4theT

Spotlight on Willie Dean: Principal of J.T. Reddick Elementary Willie Dean, a Tifton native and proud member of the TCHS Class of 2006, has dedicated his career to education, serving for 14 years, with the last five as the principal of J.T. Reddick Elementary. His journey as an educator is deeply personal, fueled by a commitment to fostering growth and success in every facet of the school community. Mr. Dean's family includes his wife Shekanah and their son Willie Dean III, affectionately known as Tre’. As a principal, one of his greatest joys is witnessing the milestones achieved by his students, teachers, and school community. "Seeing the growth and success of students, teachers, and the school community as a whole is incredibly fulfilling," he shares. He recognizes that his leadership has a direct impact on creating a positive, safe learning environment where students can thrive both academically and personally. However, with great responsibility comes challenges. For Mr. Dean, one of the most demanding aspects of his role is navigating the complexities of balancing the diverse needs of students, staff, and families. From addressing performance concerns to handling student discipline and parent issues, he often faces difficult conversations. Yet, despite these challenges, Mr. Dean embraces these moments as necessary for the continued growth and well-being of the school community. Willie Dean's dedication to J.T. Spotlight on Tim Hatton: Director of Sixth Street Academy Tim Hatton, Director of Sixth Street Academy, has dedicated 27 years to the field of education, with 15 of those years as a principal. A 1990 graduate of Bainbridge High School, Mr. Hatton is not only a respected leader but also a proud father to his children: Dowry, Catherine, and Caroline. For Mr. Hatton, the most rewarding part of his job is seeing students achieve success both academically and socially. Watching students grow and overcome challenges drives his passion for education. However, one of the greatest challenges he faces is breaking the cycle that some students are caught in, striving to give them the tools and support they need for lasting change. Thank you, Mr. Hatton, for your dedication and service to the students of Tift County, helping guide them toward brighter futures. #4theT

As our celebration of GA PreK Week comes to a close, we’re excited to share some great news about the Tift County Pre-K program! Recent GKIDS (Georgia Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills) Readiness assessment data shows that students from Tift County Pre-K classrooms are entering kindergarten better prepared than their peers from other Georgia Pre-K programs or those who didn’t attend Pre-K. We are extremely proud of our young learners and the incredible work being done to set them up for success! #4theT

Spotlight on Paul Nelson: Principal of Eighth Street Middle School Paul Nelson, the principal of Eighth Street Middle School, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to education. Originally from Chicago, Mr. Nelson graduated from high school in 1996 and has since dedicated 23 years to the field of education, with the last 8 years spent as a principal. Supported by his wife, Gina, and their three children—Martha Jane, Maggie, and Max—Mr. Nelson has found his passion in leading students and staff to success. He takes great pride in seeing both students and teachers achieve their goals, whether it’s mastering a difficult concept or improving instructional strategies. Despite the rewarding aspects of his role, Mr. Nelson acknowledges that one of the toughest parts of being a principal is navigating dilemmas when there’s no clear right answer. These challenges test his leadership skills, but his focus remains on supporting his school community through complex situations. Paul Nelson’s leadership at Eighth Street Middle School continues to foster an environment of growth and success for all. His ability to manage both the rewarding and challenging aspects of his position demonstrates his dedication to the students, teachers, and staff he serves.
