IDEA Performance Score

TIFTON, GA — Tift County Schools has received the highest possible determination from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) for its implementation of special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

As required by federal law, the GaDOE annually reviews data from every Local Education Agency (LEA) to evaluate how well school systems meet the requirements and purposes of IDEA. Following a comprehensive review of data from the 2024–2025 school year, Tift County Schools earned a determination of “Meets Requirements,” the highest designation available.

Based on a possible 20-point scale, the district received a total performance score of 20 points, resulting in a 100% determination rating.

The review process evaluates several compliance and performance indicators designed to ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate services and support. Indicators reviewed include:

  • ELA assessment proficiency rates for students with disabilities in grades 3–5

  • Rates of suspension and expulsion

  • Disproportionate representation of racial and ethnic groups in special education and disability categories

  • Timely completion of initial evaluations for special education services

  • Early childhood transition planning

  • Postsecondary transition goals for students with disabilities

  • Timely correction of any identified noncompliance

  • Accurate and timely reporting of data

  • Maintenance of Effort (MOE) requirements

The Georgia Department of Education also provides technical assistance and guidance to school systems to support continuous improvement and ensure compliance with IDEA requirements.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and commitment of our special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators who work tirelessly to support our students,” said Kim Bruce, Director of Special Education for Tift County Schools. “In Tift County Schools, we believe that All Means All. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed, and this determination affirms the strong systems and supports we have in place to ensure that students with disabilities receive the services they need to reach their full potential.”

Superintendent Natalie Gore added that the recognition highlights the district’s ongoing commitment to serving all learners.

"Gore expressed pride in the achievement and appreciation for the staff members who support and advocate for students daily. She emphasized that Tift County Schools remains dedicated to offering superior educational paths and ensuring necessary support for every student to achieve their maximum potential."

Tift County Schools will continue to review performance indicators and implement strategies through its improvement planning process to ensure students with disabilities receive the services and support needed to succeed.
