System and school administrators toured the ongoing renovation project at Len Lastinger Elementary today.
Renovation and expansion of the cafeteria was completed at the beginning of the school year. This included tearing down the old kitchen and rebuilding one that is larger with modern and upgraded equipment.
A new office area and media center are being built on the front of the school. The office area will be completed in the next few weeks while the media center is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.
Classroom renovations throughout the building include painting, new ceiling tiles, new flooring, new windows, mill work and storage cabinets.
Final completion of the entire project is expected in May 2024.

Nationwide Emergency Alert Tests will be conducted on Wednesday, October 4th at approximately 2:20pm. These tests include a test of the Emergency Alert System and the Wireless Emergency Alert capabilities.

Out of an abundance of caution, Northside Elementary was placed on a soft lockdown this afternoon due to an unconfirmed incident. System security personnel worked with local law enforcement to determine that there was no threat to the safety and security of the students or staff. The school resumed normal operations. #4theT

According to Tift Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department 35 students were evaluated and released today in regards to the bus incident this morning.
The investigation has confirmed the chemical to be pepper spray. At this time, Tifton Police and Tift County Schools System Security Staff are still investigating the cause of the incident

A chemical believed to be pepper spray was sprayed on Bus 202 this morning during the middle and high school route. School administrators contacted EMS and out of an abundance of caution it was advised that students be transported to Tift Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Schools are in the process of contacting parents of these students and requesting that they come to Tift Regional at this time. If you have not been contacted by the school and your middle or high school student rides this bus, please contact the school or meet your child at Tift Regional Medical Center. School administrators from Northeast Middle School and Tift County High School are currently on site at the hospital. This did not involve any students that ride the elementary school route.

Tift County Schools' Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year is Mrs. Megan Guzman. Mrs. Guzman is a 2006 graduate of Tift County High School. She started her teaching career in 2011 with Tift County Schools at G. O. Bailey Elementary. She has remained at G. O. Bailey throughout her career where she currently teaches Kindergarten.
Mrs. Guzman was surprised at her school today when she was presented with the keys to a 2023 Nissan Rogue. We would like to thank Cory and Mia Tenneson with Tenneson Nissan for providing this vehicle for Mrs. Guzman to drive throughout this school year.
