We did it! Tift County Schools finally hosted our ribbon cutting ceremony at Northeast Campus! This was an amazing day for all who have been waiting for the serving area to become an official part of the Tift County Schools.

Twenty-two hardworking fourth and fifth grade students from Matt Wilson Elementary School earned an afternoon at Tift County Lanes on May 10 as a reward for earning 75 Accelerated Reader (AR) points during the second half of the school year from January 8 through May 3. Matt Wilson boasts a very active AR program with rewards and incentives throughout the year.
NORTHSIDE PRIMARY FEELS THE BEAT OF DANCING DRUMS

Steve Campbell, co-creator of Dancing Drum, visited Northside Primary School to do an interactive program with all of the students called “Drumming Up World Music” on May 9. During the program, Campbell showed the students different places on a world map and then showed them different types of beats on the drums and various instruments from different parts of the world. He played a steel drum from Jamaica and a didgeridoo from Australia. The students all took part in dancing as well as in playing drums, wood blocks and maracas.

As a preview for the study of the Persian Gulf War, Dr. Shelley Fandel's AP U.S. History classes at Tift County High School hosted guest speaker Robert Coleman, a U.S. Army veteran and soldier in the Gulf War. Coleman shared his war experiences with students on April 12 and brought a collection of artifacts from the war including gas masks, pictures, leaflets and Iraqi military manuals. Dr. Fandel said the students enjoyed learning about the war from Coleman whose daughter, Emily, is a student in her fourth block class.

Students in teachers Shelli Phillips and CassieTomlinson's tenth grade World Literature class at Tift County High School conducted a debate recently over which archetypal characters they would be allowed to use in their essays. Click READ MORE for additional details on the class project.
