Matt Wilson Elementary School teachers and staff use the Accelerated Reader program to encourage reading. This computer software program developed by Renaissance Learning is a tool used to motivate and reward student reading. Students read a book geared to their reading level, and then take a comprehensive quiz on the computer. They must pass the quiz to earn points; the number of points assigned to a book is based on the book’s length and difficulty level.

Reader Rewards

Thanks to our supportive PTO, the media center provides a variety of rewards to encourage readers. Students must average 75% correct on tests to shop at the AR store or receive prizes.

Trips

The media center sponsors trips each grading period for exceptional readers. Students must earn the required points within the 9-weeks period for which the reward is given.
