Copyrighted Material
The Board of Education will adhere to the Copyright Act of 1976, Public Law 94-553, that defines the regulations that govern the policy of copyright materials.
It will be the duty of the school principals and media chairpersons to keep the respective staffs informed of such regulations. The system media contact person will distribute such information from the central office. A copy of the law and related interpretive documents will be kept on file in the central office.
Most common copyright violations:
- Making copies from consumable workbooks.
- Making exact replicas of copyrighted characters such as Winnie the Pooh, etc.
- Making photocopies from ditto masters that have dried out.
- Making an audiocassette of songs from a CD.
- Using videos as entertainment instead of instruction.
Please check with the media specialist if you have a copyright question. Remember that educators are professionals and need to adhere to copyright guidelines.
The Library Media Committee will be composed of the principal, media specialist, grade chairs, and parent or community representative. A needs assessment survey will be given to teachers each year. The media committee will determine needs based on the results of the survey.
Accelerated Reader is strongly encouraged at Charles Spencer. Accelerated Reader books are marked with red dots. The reading level and point value are indicated on each book. Students must read within the range determined by the STAR test. Teachers are responsible for monitoring tests taken in the rooms. Media Center staff will monitor tests taken in the media center. Administrators and staff are highly encouraged to take tests as well as students. Students will be recognized on posters for point club levels. Students and staff reaching 50, 100, 200, 300, etc. points will be announced on the morning news. Students reaching 300 points will be taken to a Wild Adventures at the end of the school year. Students may spend their AR points in an Accelerated Reader store which will be opened at the end of the first and second nine-week period after report cards go home, and at the end of the school year. Students earning 75 points during the first semester are taken to Tift County Lanes, and those earning 75 points during the second semester earn a swimming party.
