Sometimes it is necessary for teachers to keep students in for detention hall for minor offenses. Some of the reasons are listed below:

• Failure to have assigned work
• Excessive playing in class
• Defiance/ disrespect/ not following directions
• Sleeping in class
• Conduct unbecoming to a student
