Classroom Behavior
Assertive discipline is used at Spencer School. This program includes positive rewards and negative consequences. Students are given choices. They are taught responsibility for their actions. Responsibility requires good choices and smart decision making. Remember you are responsible for yourself only.
Spencer’s well-behaved students receive rewards for their good behavior. Each teacher keeps a daily record of student behavior. After each nine weeks, the students who have chosen to obey their classroom and school rules may be rewarded to let them know that their good behavior has been noticed and appreciated.
Negative consequences for misbehavior may include parent/student conference, detention hall, corporal punishment, in school suspension, home suspension, or expulsion. Infractions and consequences are listed in the Tift County Schools Code of Student Conduct. Law enforcement officers may be called to pick up students who commit severe infractions.
Example of classroom rules are as follows:
- Upon entering the classroom, take your seat and begin to prepare for the lesson.
- Focus your attention on the teacher. Make sure you write your assignments in your notebook. Bring all required supplies, books, and assignments.
- Avoid talking with other students unless this is part of the lesson.
- Behave respectfully toward the teacher. If you have a personal problem, it is best to wait until the end of the period to speak to the teacher about it.
- Leave gum, candy, toys, and electronic devices at home.
