After-School Program: 21st Century

Tift County 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) was recently implemented in Tift County. As a supplement to the No Child Left Behind Act, the U.S. Department of Education allocated funds to establish community-learning centers for students and families. The purpose of the community learning centers are to: 1) Provide opportunities for academic enrichment and tutorial services to meet the state and local performance standards in core academic subjects. 2) Offer students a broad array of youth development activities including recreation, music, arts, prevention programs, technology, and counseling. 3) Offer literacy and related educational development for families of 21st CCLC participants. The community learning centers operate 5 days a week outside the normal school day during the school year. A 6-week program is offered during the summer. Transportation is provided during both programs. This program encourages schools and communities to become partners by sharing in the commitment to improve the educational success for all children and families.
