At-A-Glance

Eighth Street Middle School (ESMS) is one campus of two public middle school in Tift County. ESMS houses the 7th and 8th grade students. The school building was originally built as a high school in 1962. In 1998, the school was one of two schools in the county that housed 7th, 8th and 9th grade students. In 1999, Eighth Street Middle School was established as a 7th and 8th grade middle school.

Currently, 1212 students are enrolled at ESMS. The grade levels are organized into teams. ESMS currently has six 7th grade teams and six 8th grade teams. Students have a choice of exploratory elective courses. Students may choose to take band, chorus or enroll in an exploratory wheel, which consists of Agriculture, Art, Careers, Public Safety/Government, Technology or PE.

  • The student to teacher academic ratio is 25 to 1.
  • There are currently 1212 students in our school. There are 612 seventh graders and 600 eighth graders.
  • Students at ESMS have computers for use at school. The student computer ratio is 1 computer to every 4 students.

Faculty

  • Forty percent of the faculty have advanced degrees.
  • Seven staff members have more than 30 years experience in education.
  • Two teachers, Carol Gardner and Myra Thompson, both have 37 years experience in education.
