Interscholastic Activities
Athletics is a very important part of any school program. Students who participate increase their leadership and social skills and learn to work in harmony with others. They help create greater school spirit among the faculty and student body. Students are encouraged to participate. Eighth Street Middle School offers the following athletic teams: baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, football, golf, softball, tennis, track, and wrestling and cheerleading.
Academic and literary events provide opportunities for students to represent ESMS in competitions other than athletics. The academic events are as follows: spelling bee, essay, oratory, writing fair, chorus, and band.
Students must be present for one half of the school day in order to participate in any extracurricular activities that day. A student who is assigned to I.S.S. or home suspension will not be allowed to participate in any school-sponsored activity during the period of his/her suspension.
In addition, students participating in interscholastic activities must meet the requirements of the Georgia High School Association (see No Pass/No Play Policy).
