Meet the Behavior Specialist

As the Behavior Specialist here at Sixth Street Academy, it is my job to assist faculty and students. My primary jub duty is to collaborate with the School Counselor to develop, implement, and evaluate behavioral strategies that enhance the students' school performance academically, socially, and emotionally. Some of my job description consists of the following: developing Behavioral Contracts, developing Functional Behavioral Analysis Assessments with students, and developing Behavioral Intervention Plans consisting of goals, objectives, and interventions to help students learn and display positive behaviors and deter negative behaviors. I also consult with teachers regarding students' behavior and observe and monitor students' behavior in the classroom setting, reward positive behaviors, schedule parent conferences when necessary, and provide individualized and/or group services to remediate inappropriate behaviors. In addition, I coordinate with the School Counselor to provide assistance as needed for the overall operation of the counseling program, advocating on behalf of students, and helping to promote student success.

Character Education Plan
The Behavior Specialist will introduce the character word of the week each Monday. The word will be discussed with each student and an follow. The activity will consist of one of the following: worksheets, videos, group activities, writing assignments, or role-play skits. The 27 character words are on display on the Character Counts Wall in the Behavior Specialist’s room.Each classroom teacher will also have the character word of the week displayed in a visible area for students to view.
