Career/Technical Education Pathways


The objectives of agricultural education are to prepare students for careers in agriculture or an agriculturally related business to introduce students to the broad areas of agriculture such as horticulture, forestry, wildlife, mechanics, and welding. Students develop skills in the production area of agriculture for employment in the agricultural business industry, or for entering an agriculturally-related major in college.

Business & Computer Science

Business Education courses serve a two-fold purpose: Preparing students to enter the world of work and supplying personal and business/office skills to function in today’s world as a well-informed and productive citizen. Cooperative Business Education, a work-study program, is offered to juniors and seniors who wish to enter the working world while still in school. The Future Business Leaders of America Club (FBLA) is a leadership organization in which students are encouraged to participate if they are in or have previously taken business classes or are interested in business.

Family & Consumer Sciences

Family and Consumer Sciences prepares students to effectively balance roles and responsibilities within the home, family, and work place. The major topics addressed include:

  • establishing satisfying personal and family relationships,
  • caring for and nurturing children,
  • providing nutritious food,
  • selecting and maintaining housing,
  • providing and caring for personal and family clothing, and
  • managing financial and other resources.

Engineering & Technology Education

Engineering & Technology Education gives students an introduction to the world of technology providing an opportunity for students to develop skills, to increase abilities to solve practical problems, to make informed decisions, and to interpret the impacts of technology on society. The Technology Program provides a balanced mix of theoretical and practical information with hands-on activities that reinforce conceptual understandings. Technology Student Association (TSA) is an extracurricular organization complementing Engineering & Technology Education classes.

Healthcare Science

Healthcare Science prepares students for the field of medicine.


Marketing Education prepares students for employment in the areas of merchandising, marketing, management, and service occupations. Training consists of in-school class activities, on-the-job work experiences and DECA, a co-curricular club with opportunity for personal recognition and social activities.

Trade & Industry Clusters

Trade and industry programs are designed to meet the career needs of students pursuing careers in a technical or medical field. By providing instruction, insight, and experience by teachers who have been employed in their fields, students are given related and practical information concerning their career paths. College Prep students are encouraged to take courses in the Trade and Industry clusters to develop skills to complement their careers and interests. Students enrolled in Trade and Industry programs are eligible to join VICA-Skills USA, a vocational student organization which offers competitive events, leadership opportunities, and social events for its membership.

Youth Apprenticeships (Non-Pathway option)

Tift County’s Youth Apprenticeship incorporates the three critical elements of work-based learning, school-based learning, and appropriate connecting activities. Youth apprenticeships are part-time employment opportunities for high school juniors and seniors enrolled in Career Education classes at Tift County High School. Typically, students attend classes in the morning and report to the worksite in the afternoons. Written application and prerequisites are available by contacting the apprenticeship coordinator.
