Quality education, a major concern, is vital to our economic prosperity.  Good working relationships between individual Tift County schools and the business/industrial/post secondary communities strengthen our school programs and enhance our economic growth.  Public school systems, as good as they are, cannot provide youth with all the help they need, either in career planning or in exposure to the talents and expertise represented by the employees of business/industrial groups.  Business/industrial/post secondary communities, as good as they are, cannot effectively exist apart from the educational systems that prepare their future employees.  Partnerships between schools and business/industries/post secondary are not only desirable, but also essential.  Participation in the Partners in Education Program requires voluntary acts of commitment from both a school and an organization to a partnership that promotes instructional progress.

To facilitate this process, the Tift County School System initiated the Adopt-A-School Program in 1987 (with the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce).  Many successful partnerships have been formed and continue to contribute greatly to the enrichment and the quality of education in Tift County.

Partners, schools and business/industry/ ha post secondary have benefited from this relationship.  By working directly with professionals from business, industry, and post secondary institutions students are developing an awareness and appreciation for the business world.  Community partners have developed a sense of pride and accomplish­ment by serving as role models and by sharing experiences with young people.

The purpose of this handbook is to be a guide for reviewing and evaluating procedures of established partnerships and a guide for new or prospective partners.
